How to Keep Dreams Alive

4 Feb

Making your own work keeps the dream alive.

It’s easy to fall into a slump when you’re barely going on auditions, when the projects you are submitting for you are submitting just for submission’s sake, when you’re out of class… when the dream just doesn’t seem attainable anymore.

The cure? Making your own work. First of all, it keeps you busy. You wont have time to be down on yourself or stress about how little you’ve been auditioning. Plus, it feels good. You are actually creating something! You didn’t wait around for someone else to create it for you. You are collaborating with others. Makes you feel a part of something, instead of this isolated entity trying to climb an invisible ladder to the top. It gives you something to look forward to. Something to think about. Whether it’s how to promote it, what to wear for it, who else you want involved in it. There’s always something.

In this career there are many points high and low, the distance between the two often great and the frequency of their occurrence even greater. Thus, you need a little something to keep you going. Creating makes you feel productive, keeps your mind at ease and could quite possibly lead to something greater. But, most importantly, it keeps that dream alive.
